The Effects of Group Art Therapy using Five Senses on Cognitive Functions and Depression of the Elderly with Mild Cognitive Impairment

|
This study was to determine if five senses on Congnitive Function group art therapy works for the cognitive function and depression of the elderly with longitude or disability. The study target was selected by 12 people aged 65 or older who lived in a nursing home for senior citizens in K-si and whose scores of MMSE-K corresponded to 20-23 points. The 12 people were assigned wirelessly to the experimental and control groups. The research period was 60 minutes in advance once a week from June to September 2018. A total of 12 sessions were conducted with post-inspection included. The research tools used were the Korean version of the Simplified Mental Health Inspection (MMSE-K) and the Korean Senior Citizens' Examination (KGDS). In summary, the results of this study are as follows. First, the Five Senses on Congnitive Function group art therapy was effective in the cognitive function of the elderly with longitude, cognitive impairment. Significant effects were shown in the sub-factor of the cognitive function: time span, place endurance, memory recall, and language function. Secondly, the Five Senses on Congnitive Function group art therapy worked for the depression of the elderly with longitude and cognitive disabilities. It showed significant effects both in emotional discomfort, pessimistic thinking and unhappiness, weakening of physical aptitude and degrading of awareness and social interest and activity, which are sub-factor factors of the depression test.
